The Vauxhall Cascada is a four-seat convertible launched by the British manufacturer in 2013. The fabric drop-top aims to take on the likes of the Audi A4 Cabriolet, Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet and Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet.
Its aim is to be an affordable car to buy and own, yet prove to be a viable alternative to the more premium four-seater open tops such as the BMW 4 Series Convertible.
The roof is made from fabric, rather than a metal folding one, and takes 17 seconds to close or open. The driver can operate the roof at speeds up to 30mph – handy if you get caught in a sudden downpour when driving in town. There is an optional ‘acoustic roof’ that can be specified new and claims to cut down further on road and wind noise.
Boot space is a good size at 380 litres, but if you drop the roof and the amount of room for luggage drops to 280 litres. For longer loads the rear seats can be dropped to increase space to 750 litres, though the shape of the boot is not tall but is quite deep.
