In 2006 Skoda shocked the car industry by launching a quirkily styled small car which catered for families looking for lots of space in a vehicle with the footprint of a VW Polo.

The Skoda Roomster featured love it or hate it styling and a huge amount of practical touches inside the car which helped it do its duty as a seriously practical car. Rivals include the Nissan Note, the Kia Soul and the Citroen C3 Picasso.

The rear seats especially were very clever: they were able to side forwards and backwards, recline, or come out altogether. In fact, they could even come out individually, and the centre one could be left out and the outer rears slid in for a four-seater. This also had the effect of making the Roomster’s 450-litre boot versatile enough for anything up to van-like storage capacities.
