The Twingo didn’t come to the UK when it was originally launched in 1993, being only available in left-hand drive for mainland Europe. It wasn’t until the second-generation was launched in 2007 that the French firm’s little city car finally made it to our shores.

With space for four adults, practical features and a price tag cheaper than some of its rivals, the Twingo became a popular buy.

Facelifted in 2012, the design was radically changed with a completely new front end and was only available in one trim making the choosing process much simpler for car buyers.

There were three versions of the 1.2-litre petrol available to choose from ranging from 60bhp to 100bhp, the latter was only available in a sportier GT model.

Originally up against cars like the Nissan Pixo and Kia Picanto, the segment has somewhat expanded over the past eight years with cars like the Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo and Hyundai i10 now also competing for sales.
