With a face borrowed, rather unsuccessfully, from the 996 generation 911 the Porsche Cayenne – on first glance – failed to capture the hearts of would-be buyers.

Until they drove one that was. The first Cayenne – and every generation made since – has set the benchmark for driving pleasure in an SUV. Various iterations of this first-generation model made it to the UK market, including the S, GTS, Turbo, and blistering Turbo S with over 500bhp from its twin-turbo petrol V8 engine.
