The Mazda 3 is a mid-sized hatchback and saloon that has sold in three generation since its UK launch in 2004.

It trades well on its reputation for being good to drive, reliable, well-equipped and spacious, but lacks a bit of the feel good factor demonstrated by its many rivals, least of all the Ford Focus and VW Golf.

The first version was sold between 2004 and 2008 before the second generation came along. This was replaced in 2013 by the current, third gen car.

Fast versions are called MPS, which stands for Mazda Performance Series, and use a 260bhp, 2.3-litre turbocharged engine. Only available in the first and second generation (currently), the 3 MPS is a formidable and often overlooked hot hatch.
