When the Lexus CT was announced for launch in 2011, it sounded like a fantastic package, borrowing Toyota’s hybrid know-how from the Prius and dropping it into a luxury hatchback which was meant to take on the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Volvo V40.

When the Lexus CT was announced for launch in 2011, it sounded like a fantastic package, borrowing Toyota’s hybrid know-how from the Prius and dropping it into a luxury hatchback which was meant to take on the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Volvo V40.

It makes use of a 1.8-litre petrol engine with 92bhp and an 82bhp electric motor to produce maximum power of 134bhp, meaning the sprint from 0-62mph took 10.3 seconds and top speed was 112mph. Unfortunately, it also makes use of a CVT automatic gearbox, which doesn’t make the most of the car’s performance.
