It might not share a model name, but in effect the Land Rover Discovery Sport can trace its lineage back to the Land Rover Freelander. However the Land Rover Discovery Sport, launched in 2015, now comes with seven seats and a sleek exterior design that blends the high-fashion of the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque with the utilitarian go-anywhere looks of the larger Land Rover Discovery.
It doesn’t replace the larger model though, intended to be Land Rover’s entry-level model, it merely sits alongside it in the line-up. Initially there was just the one engine, the 2.2-litre diesel that had seen service in the Freelander, but later in 2015 Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) new Ingenium 2-litre diesel engine joined the range.
