When the two-seater Honda CR-Z was launched back in 2010 it had one job: to be the first hybrid that’s actually fun to drive.

It was based on the Honda Insight – a hybrid-only car which forgoes convention car styling in favour of an aerodynamic appearance for the lowest-possible CO2 output and highest possible fuel economy.

But the CR-Z has been built for fun, so in the bin goes the 1.3-litre petrol engine to be replaced by a 1.5-litre with 112bhp. This joins an electric motor to form the company’s IMA Hybrid Drive system, and total power is 122bhp. That means a 0-62mph sprint in 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 124mph.
