Keen to capitalise on the success of premium-priced small hatchbacks such as the MINI Hatch and Fiat 500, 2010 saw the arrival of the Citroen DS3.

Essentially a more stylish, upmarket three-door hatchback version of the C3, the Citroen DS3 replaced the sporty-but-quirky C2 in the firm’s line-up.

While MINI and Fiat’s 500 had opted to go the retro route in terms of styling, Citroen didn’t look to its back catalogue for inspiration, instead giving the DS3 a modern, chrome-laden face, with many models also featuring vertically-stacked day running lights. The key DS3 styling signature was the shark’s dorsal fin-shaped panel just behind the front doors, and the ‘floating’ roof design, usually appearing in a contrasting colour.
