The Citroen C5 has provided a bit of a left-field choice for those after big space and comfort since 2001, believe it or not, and is now in its second generation.

Sitting beside established large family cars like the Vauxhall Insignia or Ford Mondeo, its strengths have always been a luxurious ride and strong, frugal diesel engines.

First generation cars offered ‘hydropneumatic’ suspension for a really smooth ride and engines ranging from economical diesels to a powerful V6 petrol, which didn’t prove hugely popular.

You could have a hatchback or an estate, with the latter offering a cavernous boot and increased passenger space.
