Buyers love the Golf hatchback, but the estate didn't take off in the same way. In fact, it's quite rare.

Not as good as previous Golfs. Plenty of minor problems reported that upset owners who thought that everything in life should be as reliable as a Volkswagen. 1.8T engine had well-publicised ignition problems. Also problems with door locks and windows.

Car check problem points

Well built, well finished; minor blemishes should be the only problem - check sports versions very carefully for accident damage.

1.8T and V5 may have been driven hard.1.8T had ignition coil recall.

Scrubbed front tyres on V5; kerbed alloy wheels. Occasional problems with electric windows / central locking. Diesels need full service history.
