The 'new' Beetle was the car that started the retro trend when it was introduced in 1999, two years before the MINI came along. In terms of looks, it's very much in the same vein as the original model with a similarly distinctive rounded profile.

Buying used

In the first year, there were a lot of left-hand-drive cars and parallel RHD imports on the market. If it didn't come through Volkswagen UK, it will say 'First registered by independent importer' on the log book. You should pay significantly less for such a vehicle. Aside from that there are plenty of models on the used market with the 2.0-litre the most popular.

The 1.9 TDI is a good choice if you intend to cover long distances but most engines are fairly economical.

This is a well recognised model and there should be few problems selling one, although with plenty on the market you'll have to check out the local competition to see what you're competing against. The 2.0-litre is popular and there are plenty around. The TDI and V5 models are rarer and will command a higher price.
