Used Suzuki Grand Vitara (1998 - 2005) Comfort

The original Vitara kicked-off the lifestyle 4x4 sector in 1989. The larger Grand Vitara arrived in showrooms in 1998, with chunkier styling, a better interior, comfier ride and more safety kit.

A tale of two cars here. Both have supportive seats, the squabs are quite spongy. The three-door has limited legroom in the back and will only seat two. The five-door is much better, with adequate legroom for two (although there's not enough room for three adults). Rearest seats in the seven-seater XL-7 are for children only.

Limited luggage space on the three-door, although the rear seats do fold and tumble to increase the load area. Five-door has more space and still has folding seats. Five-seat XL-7 is best. Large hinged door means loading shopping can be difficult when you're parked-up. Lots of cubby-bins.

Behind the wheel

The interior looks disappointingly cheap, with lots of grey and black plastic, and twee seat material. The driving position is good - high up, with good visibility. The steering wheel height can be adjusted and most have seat-height adjustment. All major controls are logically placed and easy to reach.
