Sturdy bodyshell, strong chassis and lots of equipment. ABS, passenger and side airbags standard across the range. Immobiliser across the range but alarm on top-spec models isn't Thatcham approved which will cause insurance headaches.

Mechanicals are excellent, but there are reported problems with loose interior trim and build quality issues, but these are mainly restricted to early cars.

Car check problem points

Check for abused Sports models.

Coil packs are known to fail, but problems should not be expected; check 1.8 turbo and V5 models for a juddering clutch.

Check for leaky door seals.
