This S-Class looks sleekly poised and is less of a heavyweight than the previous model, though it has retained its imposing identity and presence. Thanks to the Active Body Control system the handling is sharpened up so much that the old car feels stodgy by comparison.

Buying used

Most of these will be management movers, so look out for high mileage. Prices will stay high, though, due to its desirability and make sure you opt for a model with extras such as leather and sat nav.

Rising fuel and tax costs mean that thirsty saloons aren't top of many buyers lists. The S-Class will sell though, and makes a popular chocie for taxi and limousine firms, particularly the S320 CDI. The AMG versions will always command a premium, but are only sought after by a handful of buyers so make take longer to shift.
