Strong performance, comfortable, high standard of fit-and-finish, great engine sound
Punishing running costs, woeful CO2 figure, ML500 does a similar job for less

Parkers Rating:

3 out of 5

As well as being the ultimate M-Class, the ML63 AMG is also one of the fastest and most powerful 4x4s that money can buy. The hand-built 510bhp V8 powers it to 62mph in 5.0 seconds and powers it onto 155mph. Not all of the figures are as impressive, though. New buyers should be prepared to lose up to half the car's value in depreciation in the first year and two-thirds by year three, while on a good day, the ML63 will return just 17mpg - meaning the 95-litre tank will need re-filling every 360 miles.

As such, this car is an acquired taste and a rare sight on the used market.
