A 2005 facelift toned the looks toned down and improved the engines and suspension, but styling aside, the large saloon is a wonderfully comfortable long distance cruiser with a range of refined powerplants and pleasing handling. There's a good choice of engines available but it's the 3.0-litre diesel which makes the most sense in terms of running costs. It's also packed full of technology and is available with infra-red Night Vision and Digital television but it's rear passengers who will enjoy the 7-Series most thanks to its sumptuous seats and acres of legroom. A long wheelbase version is available for even more room.
