BMW is renowned for building cars that are great to drive but sometimes at the expense of comfort. That's not the case with the 5 Series, however.

BMW 5-Series safety is incredibly good and it scored the maximum five star rating in Euro NCAP testing. Along with a very rigid body structure it's fitted with driver, passenger, front and side airbags, Dynamic Stability Control Plus (DSC+) which includes stability control, traction control, cornering brake control, brake fade compensation and hill start assist.

The front head restraints have anti-whiplash protection plus there are two Isofix child seat mounting points in the rear so BMW 5 Series safety shouldn't be in question.

4.5 out of 5

The previous version of the 5 Series proved extremely reliable overall, although minor glitches and electric faults weren't unheard of. These were ironed out over time and this model should prove durable and reliable. It's certainly well built and feels a high quality product and if you want to boast about BMW 5 Series reliability over drinks, you'll have little comeback.
