Used Audi A5 Coupe (2007 - 2016) Review Review by David Ross on 29 May 2007 Last Updated: 29 Jul 2015 4.5 Sleek and elegant German coupes are nothing new, though the A5 is the first of this size that Audi has built in a long time. It’s a good all-round package that comes close to matching the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe with a fine range of engines, a high quality interior and an enjoyable driving experience. It’s a good all-round package that comes close to matching the BMW 3-Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe with a fine range of engines, a high quality interior and an enjoyable driving experience. The optionsThings can be a little stingy in the equipment department and you will want to opt for the higher specification models. As usual with Audi models, buyers need to be careful about piling on the options – there are plenty of them to choose from – as this will push the price up fairly quickly. Choose the right combination, however, and the A5 Coupe will be comfortable convertible with plenty of useful bits of kit on offer. It may not be a radical departure for Audi in terms of styling, but it looks purposeful nonetheless. A superb grand tourer, there's also a high performance version in the form V8-powered S5 - covered in a separate review - but it's the excellent diesels which make the most sense thanks to their blend of punchy performance and good economy. Engine line-upThe engine choice in the Audi A5 Coupe is varied with some excellent petrol engines with good performance as well as more economical but punchy diesel offerings too. Starting the range is the 1.8-litre TFSI, a turbocharged petrol engine that produces 168bhp. Added to the car for the A5 range’s when the car was face lifted in 2011, despite the engine replacing a larger 2.0-litre the turbocharger means performance is excellent and even accelerates with ease in top gear. The highlight of the diesel engines is definitely the 3.0-litre TDI, which makes 242bhp. Despite the hefty amount of power and punchy performance, emissions of just 129g/km mean that road and company car tax are relatively low while the manufacturer claims it is also capable of achieving a rather useful 58mpg. New engine offers Ultra efficiency In 2015 a new Ultra efficient 2-litre diesel engine was added to the line-up. Audi say it is good for 67.3mpg and produces 109g/km of CO2. Despite its green credentials, the new engine is marginally faster to 62mph. So is this a perfect grand tourer or a less practical and useful version of the A5 Saloon?
