Used Volkswagen Polo GTi (2010 - 2017) Safety & Reliability

From a distance it has the looks of the Golf GTI, but unfortunately for the Polo bigger hasn't proved to be better and it's fair to say the Polo has a lot of growing up to do to be on a par with its more illustrious big brother. A power output of 178bhp makes the Polo a quick car but it feels a little sanitised, so if you really are after a ballsy ‘hot’ hatch you’ll probably go for a Clio Renaultsport.

The Polo received the maximum 5 star rating when it was tested by EuroNCAP. Volkswagen has added a lot of safety kit on the GTI. This includes ABS with HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) including EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and ASR (Traction control), driver’s and front passenger’s airbags, side head/thorax airbag system for front passengers, driver’s and front passenger’s active head restraints, alarm with interior protection, electronic engine immobiliser, remote central locking and an XDS electronic differential lock for improved traction and handling.

Reliability

Volkswagen is well-known for good reliability and the Polo GTI should be in keeping with the rest of the maker's range. The 1.4-litre TSI is a proven unit so we expect few problems.
