Used Volkswagen Beetle Dune Coupe (2016 - 2018) Buying & Selling

Review by Christofer Lloyd on

The standard Volkswagen Beetle is a car that prioritises design over practicality. The Dune version, however, ups the ante, boasting suspension that has been raised by 10mm plus chunky unpainted plastic body mouldings and silver skid plates at both ends – all in the name of style.

Buying used

Not many Beetle Dunes have been bought new, meaning that there are even fewer used versions available. As a result, finding a suitable Dune may prove very time consuming.

Volkswagen offers a nationwide approved used car scheme and used car finance options are available. APR charges are much higher than you could get with the best loans, though, so sorting out your own finance could prove better value.

The Dune’s warranty lasts for three years and 60,000 miles – shorter than some alternatives. However, boosting value, this version of the Beetle is an acquired taste and many dealers will want to price the Dune attractively to encourage a sale.

Selling

Those selling a Dune face the paradox that while not many people will be looking for a Dune, there aren’t many to choose from either, meaning that supply and demand is relatively steady. Therefore, pricing the car keenly should make sure that your car gets the attention of anyone considering this jacked-up version of the Beetle.

Bright yellow models with yellow dashboard panels are even more divisive; some buyers may love the idea of a banana-hued Beetle, but others will run a mile. Selling on a slightly more tamely coloured Beetle is likely to be an easier task.

As a result of the controversial design and colours, residual values are likely to be lower than the standard car, meaning that you will probably get less for the car when you come to sell it on.
