Following on from the 2015 launch of its hatchback sibling, the spacious Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer is the estate car member of the family. Like the Vauxhall Astra hatchback, the Sports Tourer is the seventh-generation of estates to wear the name, its lineage stretching back to 1980.

Buying new

  • Sizeable discounts likely for private buyers
  • Cheaper than previous-generation Sports Tourer
  • Vauxhall expects SRi diesels to be big sellers

Approximately 80% of Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourers are expected to go the way of fleet customers, meaning private buyers could be in a strong position to negotiate sizeable discounts as dealers seek to boost their stock turnover rate.

Prices are attractively lower than the previous-generation Sports Tourer, too – especially in range-topping Elite guise.

We’d opt for the SRi Nav with the 136hp 1.6-litre diesel engine as the pick of the range, offering a sensible balance of equipment, performance and running costs.

Options-wise those excellent IntelliLux LED matrix headlights also get our vote.

Buying used

There won’t be as plentiful a supply of Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourers as there are its hatchback sibling, but it shouldn’t prove too difficult to track one down on the used market.

Dealers are likely to have most with higher than average mileage due to their previous existence as company cars but don’t be put off by that. Providing the service and maintenance record is up to date they’ll still have years of service available to them.

Spend time ensuring that any electrical equipment all works exactly as it should and thoroughly check over the boot area for signs of its cargo bay being subjected to a hard life.

Ease your doubt further with a Parkers Car History Check to discover any secrets such as outstanding finance.

Selling

Just because there will be fewer examples of the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer on the used car scene than its hatchback sibling, doesn’t mean you won’t have to take time and effort to present it at its best when it comes to selling it.

Keep hold of every piece of paperwork relating to your ownership of the car in a detailed history file and make sure that services are conducted on time by people who know the cars best.

Finally, ensure you spend time and effort composing a well-thought advertisement and complement it with an excellent set of images.
