The SX4 saloon was previously on sale in Japan and the US, but bringing it to the UK, where most small car buyers favour hatchbacks, seems a strange decision. Although the front end echoes the hatch, the rest lacks the same neat looks with that awkward bulbous rear-end sticking out like a sore thumb.

Suzuki SX4 Saloon (09-11)
Comfortable and spacious inside, decent value for money, well equipped, keyless entry and start as standard
Awkward rear styling, lacks the charm of the SX4 hatch, some scratchy cabin plastics, no diesel option

It's certainly not handsome, but it does make up for it in other areas.

The cabin is well built and comfortable and there's plenty of rear passenger space - the boot is large too, and offers almost twice as much space as the hatch, although the shallow tailgate opening means it's not as practical. It's available in just one trim level and with one petrol engine plus, despite the name, it's only two-wheel-drive. However it does come well equipped and is decent value for money.
