On looks alone Suzuki's new Kizashi saloon shows promise. This slick four-door is the Japanese manufacturer's first UK foray into the so-called D-segment currently dominated by the Ford Mondeos and Vauxhall Insignias of this world.

Running costs

Suzuki dealers are known to be quite competitive when it comes to servicing but the flipside is that you may be spending a lot of time at the petrol station. The Kizashi is claimed to average 34mpg, but in reality it's likely to return less than that.
