Skoda Octavia Scout (2014 -) Comfort

The Skoda Octavia Scout is the Czech company’s rugged alternative to the likes of the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and Volvo V60 Cross Country. It uses the already-practical Octavia estate as a base, but has a slightly raised ride height, some black plastic body protection around the car and an all-wheel drive system under the skin for some genuine off-road ability.

4.5 out of 5

  • Supple ride and comfortable seats
  • Very relaxed car to spend time in
  • Great all-rounder

Skoda Octavia Scout comfort levels are excellent. The interior is very spacious with plenty of leg and headroom available for front and rear passengers to stretch out on longer journeys, the seats are very comfortable too.

Very little road or wind noise intrudes the cabin and engine noise is pretty non-existent too unless you are revving hard to gain speed quickly.

The smooth ride quality and soft suspension in addition to the extra ground clearance means potholes and bumps in the road are no trouble for the Scout.

There are plenty of features around the cabin designed to make life easier and more comfortable while on the road, all falling under Skoda’s ‘Simply Clever’ philosophy. That means there are cupholders which grip a bottle so you just need one hand to open it, an ice-scraper in the fuel filler flap and a boot light which doubles as an LED torch.

The panoramic sunroof, which is available as an optional extra, brightens up the cabin and is well worth considering when it comes to specifying your car.

  • Hugely practical interior
  • Big boot and lots of space
  • Lots of sensible storage solutions

Skoda Octavia Scout practicality is pretty faultless thanks to its versatile estate body and extremely spacious interior.

Loaded with practical solutions and useful storage features, there is also generous interior space for all, whether you’re in the front or the back seats.

The boot is huge with 610 litres available when the rear seats are in place, they collapse down easily to extend available space up to 1,740 litres. The front passenger seat can also be folde down which means that items up to 2.92 meters can be transported, ideal if you are looking to transport some flat-pack furniture or take the surfboard to the beach.

Not only is the boot spacious, but like the estate version it is based on, it is also loaded with practical features including a double-sided boot cover, retractable parcel shelf, numerous nets and hooks to secure your items, two lights and a 12v power socket.

Practical features are not limited to the boot either with plenty of items scattered around the car which will make everyday life that little bit easier including the ice scraper stowed away in the filler cap, a smartphone holder and waste bins in the front door pockets.

If you’re looking for a car with towing capabilities then the Octavia Scout should be able to fulfil most of your requirements. Towing capacity is up 25% from the previous generation, the new Scout can now pull up to 2000kg which should be enough for a medium-sized caravan or horsebox.

Behind the wheel

  • Tidy interior layout
  • Easy to get comfortable
  • Good visibility

Slip behind the wheel of the new Octavia Scout and you will be greeted by an uncluttered and functional design.

The materials used around the cabin are of excellent quality throughout and there is plenty of kit to play with using the familiar VW Group products.

The large colour multimedia touchscreen is easy to control, but you can upgrade to a better system with a bigger screen if you want. It perhaps is not the most exciting place to be yet it’s simple and intuitive design will make life easy when behind the wheel.

High levels of adjustment in the seats will help you to find a comfortable driving position and the numerous practical storage options surrounding the driver’s seat make it easy to store and have easy access to all of your personal items.

The leather and Alcantara faux suede seats are very comfortable too.
