Volkswagen Polo Hatchback (94-00)

Summary

3 out of 5

What does this car say about you?
I value build quality and safety over Jap reliability and dullness. that makes me cringe

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
they love it. Friends with civics awe at how much steel vw put into this one. females think it's 'cute'

Would you buy this car again and why?
yup but a newer one with a bit more masculinity to it, perhaps the 01+ or 05+ GTI or the new 09 polo

What are you likely to buy next?
Golf

Used

What price did you pay?
£2,797

When did you buy the car?
August 2005

Did you get a good deal and why?
Yup had 83000kms on the clock and they threw in a free radio. Avg price of similar polos at the time was about $9000NZD

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Looked good More solid build than Jap rivals of same year, if not over all a better car Cheaper of GER 2nd hand small hatches compared to A3 A Class and BMW compacts

What was the dealer like?
Local yokel

Driving it

4 out of 5

What's it like to drive?
Good. Handles like a boat at speed as body roll is pretty sub standard sometimes. Around town throwing it in and out about town is easy and it's very responsive both steering and suspension wise. hard ride though over bumps. Road noise at 100km/h is deafening as it holds at 2900rpm. good surefooted handling i feel confident pushing it beyond the norm.

What's it like to park?
breeze. good visibility all around.

Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?
Not really. Been good overall and mechanically sound. ABS computer reset, oil leaks but not too much an issue so the mechanic says Wouldn't reccomend getting one though.

What's most practical about your car?
5 doors, auto, central locking, nippy 1.6 although 75 horses works great round town and on the Mway.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
std. ABS breaks work a treat thankfully.
