Suzuki Wagon-R+ 1.3 GL 5d (2000/X) - Owner Review

huge amount of space in such a small footprint. Very easy split rear seats to fold - one lever to lift and base move down into footwell and backrest folds down on top to give virtually flat floor. Don't know why more manufacturers don't use similar system.

Suzuki Wagon-R+ (00-07)

Summary

4 out of 5

What does this car say about you?
Individual, not brand snob, practical

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Lots of character

Would you buy this car again and why?
Maybe. We found the clutch tricky for inexperienced drivers. Fuel consumption was also disappointing - 38-42mpg and never got better than 44mpg even on long drives. Our model also lacked the third seat belt and did not have air con. Real good point was the comfortable front seats. My wife has back problems but always found the Wagon R comfortable. We replaced it last summer with a Honda Jazz auto which is brilliant to drive - except my wife finds the seats give her backache! We might be tempted by the auto version except for the poor fuel consumption. Our Jazz CVT nevers givs less than 42mpg and usually is nearer 50mpg or more on long run. Local Suzuki dealer told me today that the Wagon R auto only gets around 30mpg in town and 35-40 mpg on longer journeys. That's too much

What are you likely to buy next?
we are looking at replacing the Jazz with something with better front seats. So far we have found that small Fiats - Panda and Idea seem to have best seats and are economical enough.

Driving it

3 out of 5

What's it like to drive?
Surprisingly nippy; 0-60 in under 12 seconds gives quite a few hot hatches a bit of a surprise. Main downside is a fierce sharp clutch that makes smooth take offs quite a challenge. My two youngst children both learned on it and found it too easy to stall.

What's it like to park?
Very easy as rear is flat so the rear window in pretty much where your rear bumber is. Very good all round visibility from large windows and high sitting position

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Not many to choose from - just c/locking and electric mirrors
