Skoda Octavia Hatchback (98-05)

Summary

5 out of 5

What does this car say about you?
Someone who values function but likes a bit of style.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They love it, gives the impression its more expensive than it is (been mistaken for a BMW a couple of times).

Would you buy this car again and why?
Yep, does everything you need to a very high standard.

What are you likely to buy next?
As big a diesel as I can afford (although I'm not getting rid of the Skoda anytime soon).

Buying experience

5 out of 5

Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent

Did you buy this car new?
Used

What price did you pay?
£2,450

When did you buy the car?
December 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?
Yep, approx £300 off when I PX'ed my old Fiesta and a thorough warranty.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Had the engine I was after, plus its very well specced.

What was the dealer like?
Brilliant, car had a fault with rear door locks just after I picked it up, showed them fault and they booked me in with a VAG specialist at earliest convenience. Would recommend Tavistock Motor company to anyone!

Driving it

5 out of 5

What's it like to drive?
Pretty good for what it is, decent power when you need it and its surprisingly good in the corners for a large hatchback.

What's it like to park?
OK, lack of parking sensors and high rear window make it a bit awkward.

Living with it

5 out of 5

Have you had any problems with the car?
Yep, lock as mentioned above. Drivers window jammed and alternator packed up (approx £350 for these 2 problems). But considering I've had it 2 1/2 years its been very good for a now 14 year old car (flown through last 3 MOT's only needing bulbs and wiper blades).

What's most practical about your car?
The boot, helped 2 mates move barracks and it swallowed all their gear and them no problem at all. Plus it averaged 63 mpg on the journey.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Climate control, great in winter.
