Value

5 out of 5

Cheap to buy.

Costs

Very cheap to run. 40mpg+. Cheap parts, simple design.

Driving

3 out of 5

Handling safe, if not too grippy.

Performance

3 out of 5

Performance adequate, if a bit noisy. More power wouldn't go amiss, but chassis may not like it!

Reliability

5 out of 5

Only failed to start once. New battery fixed that.

But I don't care…

Comfort

3 out of 5

Not bad, but a bit noisy on a long fast run, and seats are a bit thin.

Skoda dealers (when used) were good value and efficient. Car now serviced by independents.

Problems

Bodywork
Biggest problem area. Rust appearing on tailgate and around rear wheel arches. :-(

Engine
Now at 95,000 miles and no problems.

Gearbox
No problems

Other
in 55,000 miles, apart from routine items it has needed 1 exhaust, 1 battery, 1 alternator and 1 thermoswitch. The battery and alternator were replaced under my used car warranty.
