Rover 25 1.8 GTi VVC 3d (2001/Y)

Rover 25 1.8 GTi VVC 3d (2001/Y) - Owner Review

Fantastic engine. Handles like it's on rails, with little body roll. Very good all round. Brakes could be a little sharper for me, though. Smooth short-shift gearbox.

Rover 25 (99-05)

Value

5 out of 5

Got it new, with 12 miles on the clock (yes 12!) for £11,500. Can't argue with that.

Costs

4 out of 5

Considering the performance, it's good on fuel, but the insurance can be a problem at group 14.

Fantastic engine. Handles like it's on rails, with little body roll. Very good all round. Brakes could be a little sharper for me, though. Smooth short-shift gearbox.

Performance

5 out of 5

This engine can not be faulted for fun factor. Power on tap from the 146+bhp available. Very smooth delivery in every gear.

Reliability

4 out of 5

Slight problem with idle revs sticking at first, which was fixed under warranty. Other than this adjustment, no failures as yet.

Image

4 out of 5

Beautiful sporty looks with the 17-inch alloys, tinted windows, metallic paint and angry 'eyes'. Gets a 4 though, due to Rovers recent troubles and with the introduction of the new MGs.

Comfort

3 out of 5

This is no car for long journeys, but nothing more can be expected from the stiff suspension and low profile tyres. Good balance, though, between ride handling and soaking up the bumps.

Security

3 out of 5

Remote central locking, immobiliser and alarm as standard. No deadlocks though. Would advise owners add further security such as a full covering steering lock.

Service

4 out of 5

Rover could do with updating some of their processes for allowing the dealers to communicate back with HQ. The dealers, though, have been fantastic with a high level of service.

Problems

Bodywork
Paint can get marked easily from stones etc.

Engine
Idle revs sticking when purchased - was resolved with no problems under the 3 year warranty.
