Ford Escort Hatchback (90-01)

Value

4 out of 5

Only paid £600 last August, done 18k miles with it. Spent £75 quid on brake maintenance. Needed new headlights, but nothing major

Costs

3 out of 5

Really expensive to run. I do about 400-500 miles a week and needs filled up at least twice. Cheap to maintain.

Driving

3 out of 5

When travelling at speed there is high noise. A tendancy to 'shake' when stationary. otherwise sound. Good driving position.

Performance

4 out of 5

No complaints other than it doesn't like to be revved

Reliability

5 out of 5

sSarted first time every time so far (touch wood!). Other than bits for the brakes, nothing major needed.

Image

3 out of 5

Apparently the most 'wooly' car to have, but still looks and drives great.

Comfort

5 out of 5

Very comfortable for a base model. Spacious and practical.

Security

3 out of 5

No central locking is no good if you're forgetful!

Service

3 out of 5

Only dealt with independant mechanic. No need for manufacturer.

Problems

Bodywork
Slight bits of rust on doors and arches etc, but to be expected for the age of the car.

Engine
None other than it shakes when stationary.

Gearbox
Fine

Other
Economy of the car is very poor. Combined mpg is only 36 so needs topping up quite a lot.
