Ford Escort Hatchback 1.3 5d (1993/K)

Ford Escort Hatchback 1.3 5d (1993/K) - Owner Review

The 1300cc engine is too underpowered to be any fun in the national speed limits, and it's not a car that's meant to be driven in anger. Or the wet. It's more than adequate as an urban run around though.

Ford Escort Hatchback (90-01)

Value

3 out of 5

Cheap and cheerful in every respect.

Costs

4 out of 5

Nothing major. Most bits are fairly cheap.

Performance

2 out of 5

Everything you need for town driving, but don't expect more than 80 on the motorway. Overtaking can use up quite a lot of straight road.

Reliability

3 out of 5

It starts, it runs.

3 out of 5

It's ok, but you wouldn't enter one for a beauty contest.

Comfort

4 out of 5

Comfortable for tall drivers/ passengers and quite good for long trips.

Security

2 out of 5

No central locking and had front offside lights stolen outside a Travelodge when the car was left for a short length of time.

Service

1 out of 5

I haven't used main agents.

Problems

Bodywork
Slight rusting around tops of rear doors, otherwise pretty good.

Engine
Loses oil slowly, not the smoothest runner.

Gearbox
Not particularly comfortable, but no major problems.
