Citroën Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi VTR+ 5d EGS (2010/60)

Citroën Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi VTR+ 5d EGS (2010/60) - Owner Review

The number of seats of course, and the fact that they can all fold down to give you a MASSIVE flat loading space in the back. Trips to the rubbish dump, ferrying around the kids and their friends, monthly shopping trips, all a doddle in this car! Also love all the space up front, as it`s the EGS there is no gear lever protruding from the dash, so I can stretch out like an African warlord when serving out motorway sentences.

Citroën Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi VTR+ 5d EGS (2010/60)

Summary

4 out of 5

What does this car say about you?
I`m a family man that needs 7 seats, and I like to live life on the edge because I bought French!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They all love it as well! Loads of compliments and positive comments on the practicality, styling and comfort. Of course the odd friendly jab about reliability as well, but those get countered with me telling them how boring they are because they bought soulless mile munchers. Each to their own, but I know I made the best decision. :-).

Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes. It`s quirky, fulfils all my needs and it works well in all areas. Also needs diligent care and attention for trouble free motoring, and I like that. The care and attention it MUST have to function correctly and reliably makes it a living piece of machinery to me, part of the family.

What are you likely to buy next?
Another 7 seater for sure. Will keep this for a few years yet, and when ready will test drive the then up to date C4GP (or equivalent) first and then compare it to whatever else similar is out there. Might have to buy a Honda Accord Type-R as well then to restore as my toy....

Buying experience

4 out of 5

Type of dealer you bought from?
Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?
Used

What price did you pay?
£7,599

When did you buy the car?
April 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?
Got a good trade-in price for the XTrail, and the C4 was priced fairly as well.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Needed the space for growing kids, and wanted something that used less fuel than our 2.5 XTrail.

What was the dealer like?
As far as car dealers go, can`t complain. Didn't give me any grief at all, and when I took the car back a week after getting it to have a few bits sorted that came up after a diagnostics check and inspection by Citroen (that I had done for peace of mind...) they sorted it all for me at no cost. Citroen would have / wanted to charged me over 600 quid to do the work.

Driving it

What's it like to drive?
Only criticisms are wind and tyre noise at higher motorway speeds, and the brakes takes some getting used to as they are super sensitive to input. The EGS box, I love it!!!! Remember, its NOT an automatic nor a manual. Adjust your head and driving and you`ll love it too. If it sounds like too much bother for you, steer well clear, you`ll end up in traction and all your kids will have deformed noses. Handling, a bit wallowy but to be expected, can be chucked around though. Engine is fantastic, beggars belief this is only a 1.6 Diesel. Seriously, this little motor can do it all, bags of torque. Peugeot made a winner with this little unit.

What's it like to park?
As far as people carries go, easy enough. The rear parking sensors are invaluable, takes some getting used to the front distance due to the sloping nose. Visibility is excellent all round, controls very easy.

Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?
Since the bits got sorted by the dealer I bought it from, no. Worth mentioning that the faults that got picked up at the inspection by Citroen was: One injector seal leaking, EOLYS pouch split open and one tyre inner sidewall damaged. The injector seal and EOLYS pouch are all bits that are known to go wrong on these, nothing major to get sorted.

What's most practical about your car?
The number of seats of course, and the fact that they can all fold down to give you a MASSIVE flat loading space in the back. Trips to the rubbish dump, ferrying around the kids and their friends, monthly shopping trips, all a doddle in this car! Also love all the space up front, as it`s the EGS there is no gear lever protruding from the dash, so I can stretch out like an African warlord when serving out motorway sentences.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The lack of gear lever (EGS) gives you a cooled compartment up front to keep some drinks and snacks in, ready to throw at the kids when they get rowdy in the back. Also love the massive windscreen that lets in loads of light and gives a great feeling of space when you shift the sun visors back (they don`t just fold). Cruise control and speed limiter nice too, but the Mute button next to the steering wheel is my favourite due to my partial deafness (courtesy of the army). No more turning knobs or repeated button pushing so I can hear the wife and kids` complaints/comments/instructions/moans.
