Citroën C4 Cactus 1.2 PureTech (110bhp) Flair 5d (2015/65)

Citroën C4 Cactus 1.2 PureTech (110bhp) Flair 5d (2015/65) - Owner Review

Excellent space and practicality on a relatively small floor plan. The car is a little taller and larger than your average family hatchback and so interior space both front and back is great for all sizes of person. The boot is not enormous but is perfectly reasonable for a 4 person family and their weekly shop. The AirBump feature, a bit of a styling hit and miss, is genuinely useful in tightly parked car parks as I'm not as worried about other users or myself knocking other cars as I would be.

Citroën C4 Cactus (14-18)

Summary

5 out of 5

What does this car say about you?
Happy to break the mold of boring German made cars.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
The looks divide opinion but a ride in it changes most minds.

Would you buy this car again and why?
Without hesitation.

What are you likely to buy next?
I would be interested in the Peugeot 308 with the 130 version of the engine or a C4 Picasso with the same engine.

Buying experience

5 out of 5

Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised

Did you buy this car new?
New

What price did you pay?
£17,000

When did you buy the car?
September 2015

Did you get a good deal and why?
Was tied into a 5 year Hire Purchase agreement with an older Citroen which left some 3.5k Negative equity; Dealership managed to discount the entire negative equity off and our small deposit sealed the deal. Pleasantly surprised they manage to help us with a challenging situation.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Striking looks, excellent value for money and decent economy and torque despite being a petrol.

What was the dealer like?
Technically knowledgeable with a clear engineering background. There was absolutely no pressure to buy, welcomed us for multiple test drives. Nothing was too much trouble both before and after sales. They have previously serviced our DS4 which is now gone and were just as courteous even then.

Driving it

5 out of 5

What's it like to drive?
Very smooth. The Puretech 110 engine is surprisingly refined, powerful and torquey. It drives somewhat like a 1.6 diesel engine with low down punch; however it has none of the clattery noise and potential DPF problems diesels have. I have averaged around 47mpg across the 3k miles and it's slowly getting better as the engine beds in. Handling is even and smooth with consistent weighting to the steering, and the car rides most surfaces smoothly and comfortably. Only let down is the slightly notchy gearbox but that is nothing major.

What's it like to park?
A doddle. Nice light steering, combined with excellent visibility, large mirrors and the reversing camera make the car a doddle to park.

Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?
Not a thing. The car has covered approximately 3000 miles since new and there has been no faults. The trim still fits properly, the AirBumps and the paint finish have not been marked at all and the alloy wheels stand up to gentle scrapes. The touch screen and fancy electronics are work and the engine/gearbox have only loosened and improved with mileage covered.

What's most practical about your car?
Excellent space and practicality on a relatively small floor plan. The car is a little taller and larger than your average family hatchback and so interior space both front and back is great for all sizes of person. The boot is not enormous but is perfectly reasonable for a 4 person family and their weekly shop. The AirBump feature, a bit of a styling hit and miss, is genuinely useful in tightly parked car parks as I'm not as worried about other users or myself knocking other cars as I would be.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Sat Nav/Touch screen with attached reversing Camera. It's a really intuitive system and the satellite navigation system is first rate. People have complained about various cars with this system not accepting post codes; since it can be entered in the "town" section of the screen, I have no complaints. Plays USB/bluetooth music with no issues. The reversing Camera is really useful and still has audible reversing sensors, unlike similar systems fitted to Hyundai's I've used!
