Using an independent BMW mechanic is great value and no hassle.

Costs

Parts are cheap. Fix electrical problems yourself to save labour costs.

Fun, fun, fun! 2.5litre straight six just loves going!

Performance

Very impressive for a 15 year old car! Rear wheel drive is amazing fun once mastered.

If you get a good one, it just keeps on going! Very well designed and put together.

Still gets a lot of compliments... I reckon it's a design icon.

Comfort

3 out of 5

Ok, even on long journeys. Car is quite narrow, but legroom is good.

Dealers should not be used for old Beemers!

Problems

Bodywork
None. Paint is still fine, only tiny rust spots.

Engine
Intake and exhaust manifolds needed new gaskets. Basic block is bulletproof.

Gearbox
Gear stick shakes in 3rd, but always has, and problem isn't getting worse.

Other
Lots of annoying little electrical problems, but what are Sundays for?
