Audi A2 1.4 SE 5d (2003/03) - Owner Review

The load space with the rear seat folded down. It's completely flat and like a mini-van.

What does this car say about you?
That I like something a bit different.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Mixed but I don't care. Most like it, some hate it. It's like Marmite ;-)

Would you buy this car again and why?
Very much so. I'm gutted it's no longer in production as for £35 a year road tax (soon to be £30 in 2010) and 60mpg it's a fantastic car.

What are you likely to buy next?
Difficult to say as there's nothing to match its balance of economy, space and quailty just now.

Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

Did you buy this car new?

What price did you pay?

When did you buy the car?
November 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?
Very good deal. TDi A2's are like hen's teeth. 75 BHP models slightly less than 90 BHP versions but nonetheless it took me 6 months to find one and I expected to have to pay more.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Running costs, different looks, practicality.

What was the dealer like?
Very good. Decent trade in value for our old Punto and an easy sale.

Driving it

What's it like to drive?
Much better than I expected. It has been driven from Scotland to London a few times and I felt comfortable and fresh at the end of the journey. It's no sports car but the ride is solid but not too bumpy. Avoid 17" wheels and if you really want comfort go for 15". I have 16's and the ride is about right. Sport models have harsher suspension as well.

What's it like to park?
Fine, because the back of the car is pretty flat. Rear visibility isn't great because of a fixed spoiler 1/3 of the way up the rear window but it causes us no pain. My wife berates the designs lack of a rear wiper.

Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?
So far, absolutely nothing.

What's most practical about your car?
The load space with the rear seat folded down. It's completely flat and like a mini-van.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Open-sky panoramic sunroof. Vital to make sure they work properly before buying one as repairs are often uneconomical.
