Used Nissan Pulsar Hatchback (2014 - 2018) Equipment Review by Keith Jones on 09 Sep 2014 Last Updated: 15 Jan 2015 3.5 While the Nissan Pulsar name may be unfamiliar in the UK, this model heralds the Japanese brand's return to the mid-size family hatchback class for the first time since the demise of the Almera back in 2006. It's Europe's most competitively-fought market sector, with some very capable rivals; notably Volkswagen's Golf and its relations from SEAT and Skoda, Peugeot's latest 308 and Ford's ubiquitous Focus. Standard Nissan Pulsar equipment Nissan claims the new Pulsar is one of the best-specified cars in the family hatchback class and looking at the kit on offer it's easy to see why. Opt for the entry-level Visia trim and you'll find cruise control, speed limiter, electrically-adjustable door mirrors, all-round electric windows, stop/start system, air-con, audio controls on the steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels, reach and angle adjustable steering wheel, CD/radio with four speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, five-inch colour display and six airbags all as standard. Progress to the Acenta and automatic lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, heated door mirrors, keyless entry and start, leather steering wheel and gear knob, rear armrest, six speaker sound system, automatically dimming rear view mirror and automatic emergency braking are also standard. Nissan expects the dCi-engined Acenta to be the UK's best-selling Pulsar. Choose the next-grade N-Tec for 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, rear privacy glass, NissanConnect2 infotainment system and reversing camera. Flagship of the Pulsar range is the Tekna, offering buyers electrically folding door mirrors, heated front seats, leather upholstery, 'Around View Monitor', blind spot warning system, lane departure warning and moving object warning system. Those final elements of the Tekna's specification together form the Nissan 'Safety Shield', its much-vaunted package encompassing features normally found on much more expensive cars. When the Pulsar detects other vehicles or objects in the road, it displays the information unambiguously in the central five-inch colour display, with orange lights on the inside of the doors indicating when another car is in its blind spot that may have been missed as it approached. Optional Nissan Pulsar accessories Because the Pulsar is so well-specified, the only factory-fitted options are whether you choose to upgrade from a standard solid colour to metallic or pearlescent paint finish, or the Xtronic automatic gearbox on petrol-engined versions. Instead of equipment bundles to choose from, Nissan will instead encourage you to progress to the next trim level up the Pulsar hierarchy. At the time of launch, moving from Visia to Acenta will cost £1,650, while the jump from Acenta to N-Tec is £1,350. Choose the range-topping Tekna over the N-Tec and your additional outlay will also be £1,350.
