Underneath the conservative-looking body of the second-generation Almera is a well-built package that's good to drive with precise handling, good fuel economy and a comfortable interior. It's competitively priced and well equipped, so those who don’t mind the anonymous looks can pick up a bargain.

Nissan Almera Hatchback (00-06)
Creature comforts, plenty of good deals around.
Not quite enough rear legroom, feels flimsy.
