The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Roadster is a convertible performance car with a folding hard-top. It’s based upon the regular SLK but comes with a huge petrol engine which makes it one seriously quick cabriolet.

Buying used

The first thing to make sure is that the car you’re looking at has a full AMG service and maintenance history. If the car has found its way to a Mercedes specialist rather than a main dealer, make sure you understand the quality of their work.

If the car has been modified it’s likely it’ll have had a hard life, so steer clear of anything that looks to have been tweaked on the cheap.

Inspecting the tyres, wheels and brakes for signs of unusual wear is also a good move. The SLK 55 AMG would be a good car to use on track days, so it’s worth asking if the car you’re inspecting has been used on track before deciding if you’re happy with it.

Finally, don’t forget to get a Parkers Car History Check carried out on the car to make sure there are no hidden surprises which will put you off buying the car.

Selling

Keeping a full and fastidious record of all servicing and maintenance is incredibly important. People are far more likely to buy a car that’s been serviced by a Mercedes dealership, so bear that in mind when having work done to your car.

If you’ve added any aftermarket modifications then consider removing them before selling to boost its appeal to a broader spectrum of the market.

Finally, advertising the car on enthusiasts’ forums or owners’ club websites is a great way to get your car in front of as many eyes as possible.
