The CLK goes down the 'looking good' rather than 'feeling sporty' coupé route. Its sleeker shape and big pillarless doors lend it a more sophisticated air than a Mercedes saloon.

Buying used

A good used buy, because it's the sort of car that tends to get looked after properly. If you're after a diesel the earlier 207 CDI is best avoided - aim for a 220 CDI for economy or a 320 CDI for performance.

Well-kept cars will always sell, but four-cylinder models and manuals are harder work. Buyers prefer more powerful automatics at this level. Still, any CLK should generate interest as it's a desirable coupe, helped in no small part by the three-pointed star on the grille.
