Keeping things simple here are trim levels called SE-L Nav and Sport Nav – both come with sat-nav as you’d expect from their names.

Standard Mazda CX-5 equipment

Kicking things off is the base-spec SE-L Nav, which is normally the upper middle trim in other Mazda models, and as such it comes with loads of kit.

Externally you get 17-inch alloys, LED headlights (including daytime running lights and front fog lights), power-folding door mirrors and privacy glass.

Inside there is black cloth seat trim with height-adjustable front seats and reclining rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob plus auto-dimming rear-view mirror and electronic parking brake.

Gadget-wise you get a stop/start system, auto lights and wipers, adaptive high beams, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control with speed limiter, sat-nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and 7.0-inch colour touchscreen with a control dial for the multimedia system.

Upgrade to Sport Nav and you get quite a bit more equipment, including 19-inch alloys, reversing camera, a powered tailgate, tilt and slide sunroof and leather upholstery.

The seats are upgraded to powered items (eight-way on the driver’s side, six-way on the passenger’s) and the front chairs are heated, as is the steering wheel. A head-up display is added, as are traffic sign recognition, keyless entry, and a premium, 10-speaker BOSE surround-sound system.

Optional Mazda CX-5 accessories

Seeing as the top-spec CX-5 is already very well equipped there aren’t a huge amount of things you can pay to have added, save for metallic paint, a different leather trim, and a safety pack (which we’ve explained in the Safety section).

Finally you can pick radar cruise control, which now works all the way down to a standstill.
