Jaguar F-Type Coupe (2014 -) Review Review by Gareth Evans on 20 Mar 2014 Last Updated: 01 Mar 2017 4.4 This handsome-looking thing is the Jaguar F-Type Coupe – a hard-top version of the simply stunning convertible sports car. The Coupe will come in either regular or ‘Coupe S’ configurations, and we think it’s one of the best sports cars that money can buy right now. The Coupe will come in either regular or ‘Coupe S’ configurations, and we think it’s one of the best sports cars that money can buy right now. It has brilliant handling, a gearbox that performs faultlessly and an engine that simply loves to be revved. Watch out Porsche… Supercharged petrol engine Both models use the supercharged V6 petrol engine found in the convertible F-Type, and it produces 336bhp and 375bhp respectively. The pair also make used of the same eight-speed automatic gearbox and are capable of 0-62mph times of 5.3 and 4.9 seconds, with top speeds limited to 161mph and 171mph.For even more performance you'll want to investigate the storming F-Type R in our separate review. High level of standard kit Standard specification on the regular Coupe includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a suede- and leather-trimmed interior, high-performance brakes and a leather steering wheel with black paddles to manually control the automatic gearbox. Moving up to S Coupe means a hike in wheel size to 19 inches, launch control (for the perfect getaway from the lights), a ‘Dynamic Mode’ to sharpen up the driving experience, adaptive sports suspension and a limited-slip differential for superior grip when cornering. Sports car running costs There’s a subtle nod to economy too – there’s a stop/start system installed which helps drive CO2 emissions down around five percent. The result is emissions of 205g/km for the normal Coupe and 213g/km for the S, meaning road tax will cost £620 in the first year and £280 per year thereafter. Fuel economy is a claimed 32.1mpg and 31mpg respectively, although we seriously doubt you’ll see over 20mpg if you’re driving the F-Type Coupe as intended. It’s not going to be all that cheap to run, then. Optional high-performance brakes On the S Coupe you have the option of Jaguar’s carbon-ceramic braking system, which while likely to be seriously expensive is definitely worth considering if you’re going to take your Jag onto the race track. This means you’ll also have to choose 20-inch alloy wheels, which can be further upgraded with the addition of high-performance tyres which offer even better handling and steering feel.
