Used Honda CR-V (2012 - 2018) Equipment

In the past the Honda CR-V has been pretty spartan but the arrival of good-value, well-equipped models from Korea has upped the ante somewhat. That is good news for the mid-sized 4x4 buyer because now you get a lot more for your money as the competition gets stronger. There’s a new trim line-up: the SE, ES and EX will be replaced with S, SE, SR and EX. This move, apparently, is a response to feedback from dealers. The changes have not compromised Honda CR-V equipment levels at all with generous standard kit on all models.

Generous standard kit

The entry-level S includes a five-inch display, dual-zone climate control, USB/iPod inputs, four-speaker stereo and 17-inch alloys. Step up to SE and you get a leather steering wheel, leather gearknob, dusk-sensing auto lights auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front and rear parking sensors, rear-view parking camera, electric windows, power-folding mirrors, six-speaker stereo, bluetooth connectivity, front fog lights and alarm. If you opt for SR there’s also half-leather upholstery, heated front seats, a stereo upgrade, DAB radio, bi-xenon cornering headlights with auto-dipping, headlight washers, 18-inch alloy wheels and passenger lumbar support and seat-height adjustment.

The top-of-the-range EX offers smart entry and push-button start, full leather interior, power tailgate, eight-way electric driver’s seat, panoramic glass roof and sat nav.

The options list isn’t exhaustive if you have gone for the EX version but if you want you can order lane-keeping assist, the collision mitigation braking system and adaptive cruise control.

The entry-level ES model is a pretty good option, offering decent kit levels as well as affordability. The inclusion of safety systems such as tyre deflation warning, hill descent control (on four-wheel-drive models only), hill start assist as well as the exhaustive systems listed on our safety section is enough to tell you that Honda is not prepared to be outdone by cheaper brands. We do think that the most popular model will be the EX version because it represents the best value for money in terms of price and equipment. The average buyer will be 58 years old so fairly well-heeled.

Honda CR-V limited editions

In February 2014 Honda released the Black Edition and White Edition versions of the CR-V. Available with a choice of the 2.0-litre i-VTEC and 2.2-litre i-DTEC engines, and based on SE-T specification, the new specials also featured 19-inch 'Orion' alloy wheels, a new grille, exhaust pipe finisher and privacy glass to the rear. A rear spoiler, running boards along the sides and skid plates on the front and rear bumpers completed the makeover.
