Trying to gain traction in the small car market requires not one model, but a whole family - which is why the new Fiat 500X has been added to the successful (and retro) 500 range of Fiat's superminis. This third distinct model in the 500 line, after 500C and 500L, boasts rugged looks and is set to take on the MINI Countryman and closely related Jeep Renegade at their own game.

Buying new

With the 500 hatchback and family friendly 500L leading their segments in Europe, it’s fair to say that Fiat has big expectations for the 500X when it goes on sale officially here in the UK early next year.

Although customers like the practicality and rugged looks of an SUV, according to Fiat 80 percent of customers will opt for the two-wheel drive model rather than a version with off-roading capability.

If you are looking to buy a 500X then your local Fiat dealership should be your first port of call as they will offer the latest discounts, bundles, competitive finance and leasing deals.

Buying used

The Fiat 500 has a rich heritage and a good track record when it comes to reliability. The build quality throughout the 500X is very good and as a used car presents quite an attractive proposition.

If buying from a previous retail owner ensure the service history is kept up to date and you inspect the car thoroughly including the brakes and tyres. Don’t forget to get a Parkers Car History Check carried out on the car to make sure there are no hidden surprises which will put you off buying.

The Fiat 500 is a hugely popular car in Europe with an army of loyal fans and the 500X is the ideal car for buyers of the hatchback maturing into families wanting to trade up.

Two-wheel drive versions are expected to be more popular than the more expensive 4x4 models so should be more common here. Likewise the 1.6-litre diesel option is likely to be the biggest selling engine here in the UK thanks to its mix of low running costs and performance credentials.

To help attract buyers make sure you keep your service and maintenance history of your 500X up to date and if you’ve added any aftermarket modifications consider removing them before selling to boost your cars appeal.

There are a number of ways to sell your Fiat 500X either on Forums, in your local newspaper, or online. If you choose to sell online, why not come to Parkers where you can search through thousands of used and new cars for the best deals.
