While the Americans love pick-ups trucks, in the UK they still tend to be the preserve of small businesses and tradesmen. The Ram is an extreme pick-up that's enormous and too big for UK roads making it difficult to manoeuvre in town and almost impossible to park in standard parking spaces.

Comfort

The Ram is a double-cab and can seat five-people thanks to a wide rear bench-style seat. However a large central transmission hump means there's not much room for the middle passenger and legroom isn't especially generous considering how large the vehicle is. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable, and air conditioning and cruise control are standard but engine and road noise are intrusive.

Practicality

Essentially the Ram is a commercial vehicle and comes with a plastic lined load bay and flip down tailgate as standard while sliding or lifting tonneau covers are available as optional extras. There's decent storage up front while the column-mounted gear-shift frees up space between the drive and the front passenger. There's also a large central storage box between the front seats that doubles as an occasional seat.

Behind the wheel

Considering this is billed as a high performance pick-up, the interior is woefully poor. Not only is the design and appearance dated but the plastics are low quality, the switches flimsy and the finish sub standard for a car with this price tag. No amount of white-faced dials and metallic trim can change that perception and the fact that it's only available in left-hand drive makes it even trickier to drive on UK roads.
