Three-star Euro NCAP rating for the old-shape model, but post-1998 cars have a stronger bodyshell. ABS, passenger and side airbags on all models. Immobiliser standard across the range, alarm on SX upwards.

No major problems, but plenty of build-quality related niggles. Long service intervals may encourage complacency and on low mileage cars, the oil might not have been changed for years.
