With the celebratory bells of success of the DS3 still ringing in the ears of the hierarchy at Citroen, the French manufacturer has decided to continue the DS theme and followed up with the introduction of the DS4. Based on the C4 hatch, the Citroen DS4 is the more premium version of the French firm’s more sedate hatchback.

Buying used

The best model for retained values is the 1.6-litre e-HDi in DStyle spec mated to the EGS6 gearbox. After one year and 10,000 miles the car will retain about 64% but hold on to it for three years, with 30,000 miles to the odometer, and it will retain around 39% of its original value. The 1.6-litre THP 16v 200 in DSport spec is the strongest of the petrol models and it will retain around 62% after one year or 10,000 miles and about 38% after three years or 30,000 miles.

Selling

The DS4 should fare quite well when you come to selling the car on. Its stand-out feature are its looks and this could sway buyers into choosing it over a rival. Expect the VTi 120bhp DStyle to be the most popular petrol car while the favoured diesel is likely to be the HDi 160 DStyle. There’ll be more diesel cars on UK roads with the mix likely to be around the 70% to 30% mark.
