The V8-powered BMW M6 Coupe is a very fast car – offering effortless and instantly available speed. In standard form it offers 552bhp and 680Nm of torque, and with the Competition Package this is boosted to 567bhp.

Buying used

This is a high-performance car so try and avoid any that have been driven (badly) on a track. Inspect alloy wheels carefully because any necessary repairs could be pricey, and the same goes for a worn interior.

Make sure any repair or warranty work has been carried out properly and get behind the wheel of the car for as long as possible so you can detect any undue knocks and rattles under the bonnet.

Selling

The standard 6 Series holds its value reasonably well, but even so, don’t expect to get anything like what you paid for your M6 back when you come to sell.

Keeping a full BMW service record will make your car more attractive to buyers and it’s also worth trying to attract enthusiasts from owners' clubs and websites.

Ensure the car is clean and tidy inside and out and get a good set of pictures taken that show every corner of the car. Otherwise it looks like you’ve got something to hide.
