This is the second generation of the 6-Series from BMW and the standards have been raised on the premium cruiser. The Porsche 911 Cabriolet, Jaguar XK Convertible and the Mercedes-Benz SL got off lightly when the original 6-Series Convertible was launched, but now they have a battle on their hands if looks are anything to go by, and BMW means business with this new model.

It is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor and the looks are more striking. From the sweeping bonnet to the slash lines on the side profile, right the way to the contoured rear, the new 6-Series has presence. This new look and longer size also means there is more interior space for driver and passengers. There are two turbocharged petrol engines to choose from and both feature Efficient Dynamics as standard to help improve CO2 emissions and lower the annual road tax bill.

This 6 model is based on the latest 5-Series and features four-wheel steering, a longer wheelbase, cleaner and more frugal engines and a part aluminium part composite bodywork. Can it combine motorway cruising with the driving enjoyment or will you opt for one of the rivals? Read on to find out…

What owners say...

Astonishingly quiet for a convertible and much more comfortable in terms of ride than I expected given all I have read about run-flat tyres. Very nice mpg for a lead foot like me!
