The new Audi S3 is a very impressive take on the ‘warm hatch’ – a hatchback which isn’t as hard-edged as a dedicated performance model yet still boasts decent performance. Rivals include the Ford Focus ST and the BMW M135i.

Buying used

Being a fairly cheap performance car, the S3 is likely to be a pretty good value second-hand buy.

The main thing to watch out for is cars which have been abused. Some may find their way onto race tracks, so watch out for cars with worn tyres or low brake pads.

Another thing to check is the alloys – they shouldn’t have any kerbing on them. Ditto the paintwork, as that should be a very good condition too. It’s a sign the car has been looked after.

Make sure you carry out a Parkers Car History Check to see if there’s any hidden history you need to know about.

Selling

We’d expect a fair few S3s to be on the market, so make sure your one will stand out.

A full servicing and maintenance history is extremely important and is definitely going to help your sale.

Advertising your S3 on owner’s forums is also a good idea to get attention from people who know what they’re looking for.
